The original Scoops opened nine years ago at Heliotrope and Melrose near LACC. Founded by Tai Kim, the ice cream shop became known for its new found flavors daily (over 700 hundred different kinds over the years and counting). This new location will be the 4th location and each shop has daily flavors as diverse as Coconut Taro, Salty Dulce de Leche, Guinness Chocolate, Maple Oreo, Almond Chocolate (non-dairy, soy-based), Peanut Captain Crunch (non-dairy, soy-based), and Caramel Brown Bread. You can expect new creations daily from Tai who personally invents each flavor with all the herbs on his palette. He’s open to suggestions too as the Scoops Westside came up with a Scoop Burger – bacon jalapeno cheddar ice cream! And yes, there are vegan options too.
This latest shop in Chinatown is tucked away in the Far East Plaza – which has been getting a buzz ever since Chego! moved in last year. Owner and previous scooper at the original, Chris Gere says “Chego and Scoops — you can take a date out and spend $8 at Chego and $3 at Scoops, then walk around Chinatown. Perfect night.” We have to agree.
Scoops Chinatown is set within the up and coming Far East Plaza, situated 2 doors down from Chego!. Hours run Tuesday through Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
