Introduction to Improv

August 23, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Have you ever watched “Whose Line Is it Anyway?” and wished you could join in? Want to learn how to think on your feet and let your imagination work it’s way into a scene? Join us for this free introductory workshop that will get you hooked into all that Improv has to offer.

From wikipedia:
Improv is a form of theater where most or all of what is performed is created at the moment it is performed. In its purest form, the dialogue, the action, the story and the characters are created collaboratively by the players as the improvisation unfolds in present time, without use of an already prepared, written script.

We’ll start with some basic “rules” of improv including understanding what the “4th wall” is all about and the one word that can absolutely kill a scene. We’ll then continue with some improv games that help us to learn to listen and trust the people we are working with.

This is a no pressure class but be prepared to participate! It’s OK if you never acted before or don’t think you can think fast and make up things as you go along. This isn’t like stand up comedy — it doesn’t have to be funny :-)
